Reporting Category: Vocabulary

LA. 6.1.6.7 (Derived from Latin, Greek, or Other Languages)

  • Root Words, Prefix, Suffix, Affixes
  •  LA.6.1.6.11 The student will identify the meaning of words and phrases derived from Greek and Latin Mythology (e.g., mercurial, Achilles’ heel) and identify frequently used words from other languages (e.g., laissez faire, croissant).

LA.7.1.6.7  & LA.7.1.6.11 Root Words, Prefixes, Suffixes. The student will identify the meaning of words and phrases derived from Anglo-Saxon, Greek, and Latin mythology.

HGMS Word of the Day

  • Pickup the word of the day at the sign-in sheet and have a fabulous JAGUAR day!
  • Find Power point with daily word of the day hgms@dadeschools.net/reading
  • Share word of the day with students every morning during Homeroom
  • Require students to keep a Vocabulary Composition Notebook
  • Ask students to write down word of the day in their notebooks and choose the sentence that helps them remember the meaning of the word.
  • Vocabulary notebooks will be checked by Homeroom teachers every Friday.

HGMS Common Graphic Organizers

  • Use a common Graphic Organizer per month in order to help students make connection between cross curricular content.
  • Students will be informed that for the whole month, they must use this method of organization to make sense of all their notes/work in all their classes.
  • teachers from ALL disciplines will reinforce the use of this method of organization in class.
  • Monthly graphic organizers will be shared with faculty at the faculty meeting.
